The article is dedicated to the philosophical consideration of the phenomenon of the contemporary university from the position of defining and classifying its major functions. The feature of todays reflection on the subject of the higher education by the philosophical thought is stressed to lie in the actualization of the classical idea of a university, elaborated in the European philosophy since the XVIII century. The leading strategy for the development of higher education is defined as its fundamentalization, such aspects of the activities of the contemporary university as humanization, ecologization and innovative orientation being exposures of that strategy. The special attention is given to the investigation of the content of such missions of university in the society as intellectual, social and educational, as well as of separate functions of university within the denoted missions.

Government actions in achieving the national goal of equal access to the educational services for Indigenous People are characterized. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Schooling agenda through a number of programs and initiatives aims to improve reading, writing and numeracy achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, as well as Year 12 attainment rates by 2020.

The article presents an attempt to investigate the model of the world in the "Shonschreiben" by Ivan Franko. The model of the world is represented as the multiple structure consisting of different functional levels. The special attention has been paid to the personological, axiological and topographical levels of this structure. The model of the world has been interpreted as two different semiotic dimensions: a) the world before the traumatic act; b) the world after the traumatic act. The system of key binary oppositions has been systematized and analyzed, allowing to understand the specifics of deep semantic structures functioning of the given world's model.

The article is devoted to the modern approaches in the study of the conceptual metaphor, in particularly in correlation with the theory of the conceptual integration. The traditional conceptual metaphors typologization, researched by the European scientists-cognitivists, is projected on the modern French political media discourse. The analysis of the latest works on this question allows emphasizing the most widespread conceptual metaphors in the French political discourse. It is discovered that the political discourse makes use of all types of conceptual metaphors to become more argumentative and suggestive. Among the most widespread conceptual metaphors of the modern French political discourse we can emphasize the metaphor ''The State is a man''.

The theoretical description of the process of using the substantive basic forms as the derivational basis of the adjective comparative and superlative degrees of comparison in the Ukrainian language is given in the article. The mechanism of the metaphorization of semantics of relative adjectives is described and the scheme of forming the grammatical category of the degrees of comparison on the basis of the substantive items from the commonly used and special lexis is given. The role of the atypical derivational models in the forming the grammatical evaluative meaning has also been analyzed in the article. Reflections on the status of the linguistic category of assessment and on the status of the grammatical category of the degrees of comparison are represented too.
