The analysis of will as the basis of the person's social activity is done within the research of R. Steiner's works concerning the correlation between thinking process, feelings and will in the structure of the person's activity. The intensive character of the will social activity is highlighted in the context of the social apathy analysis. The research of the correlation between the individual and social will, will of a person and state is emphasized. The social destructiveness is researched as a particularly human aiming at domination over the other person or social group. The article reveals the syntactic aspect of the linguistic representation of the narrator in the novel "The Moonstone" by W. Collins. It defines the influence of the type of narration on the syntactic structure of sentences: argumentations and digressions are characterized by composite complicated sentences, simple uncomplicated sentences are characteristic to narration. Syntactic means of expressiveness and dialogue character of the narration are analysed, among them – emphatic constructions (fronting, inverted and cleft sentences), interrogative and inducing sentences, direct address to the reader. Elliptical and exclamatory sentences, parenthetic elements are defined as syntactic means of stylization of the colloquial language of the narration.

The paper deals with the English verbs of physical activity, e.g. to ñaulk, to fluff, to nudge, to coin, to dice, etc. The research considers one of the aspects of such verbs semantics: the way the information about the instrument of the action they denote is manifested in their meaning. Two ways of specifying the instrument are treated: the explicit way (when the instrument characteristics are mentioned in the verb definition) and the implicit way (through some associations embedded in the mind of language community members). The paper considers taxonomic and descriptive varieties of specifying the instrument. Some data concerning the frequency of different ways of instrument specifying are provided as well as the statistics about its characteristics in the verbs of physical activity meaning.

These metaphorical expressions are considered from the standpoint of conceptual metaphor theory: the author establishes a scope of target domains that are described with the help of the source domain WATER BODY / SAILING, describes the structure of each metaphor and the results of the cross-mapping. The recommended methodology of cognitive linguistics analysis may be applied for analysing other source concepts that nominate marketing terms.

The growing number of second language varieties of English, caused by its wide use as a lingua franca, has yielded an important area of research addressing the problem of pronunciation accents in international communication, and in aviation radiotelephony discourse in particular. This paper presents the analysis of deviations from standard consonant pronunciation in the speech of Ukrainian air traffic controllers and pilots. Researching the data obtained from expert evaluators’ analysis of experimental speech samples, phonemic and phonetic features of English consonant pronunciation in Ukrainian speech were defined. The paper also provides the groups of phonemic and phonetic deviations according to the reasons of their emergence.

The paper deals with the most up-to-date problems in the theory of translation generally – the problem of translational adaptation. It highlights also the main aspects concerning translating the foreign animated films. The paper proves the necessity of pragmatic adaptation by translation of American animated films into Ukrainian and German. The most frequently found lexical-semantic groups in the text of "Simpsons" (by translation of which it is necessary to resort to the pragmatic adaptation of original dialogues because of cultural differences between American and Ukrainian societies) are identified and analyzed. The limits of pragmatic adaptation are fixed.

The article deals with the literary analysis of Brecht’s play "The Decision", which belongs to the complex of Lehrstuck ("educational" dramas). The conducted research proves that, in spite of the presence of dramatic collisions and tragic plot in "The Decision", the play under analysis has the "training-educational" purpose and is a work with such an aim according to the author’s intention. "The Decision" has become the first and last Brecht’s Lehrstuck created in complete accordance with author’s conception of genre. This play has grounded the basic "rules" of Lehrstuck: "game without a spectator", "game for oneself" and "exchanging by roles".

The research deals with the content potential of the theme ENTREPRENEURSHIP realized in the English-language business discourse. The material of the study is presented by dialogue fragments taken from the modern film scripts by the entire choice. The methods of the analysis include the text interpretation, description and comparison. At the first stage of the study the dialogue fragments containing the theme ENTREPRENEURSHIP are chosen. At the following stages the hierarchical model of the discourse theme is involved. It has led to establishing the list of subthemes, namely – "GOODS AND SERVICES PRODUCTION", "GOODS SALES", "BUSINESS COOPERATION", "ENTERPRISE MARKETING", "AIMS OF ENTREPRENEURIAL ACTIVITY", "STAGES OF ENTREPRENEURIAL ACTIVITY" and "COMPANY FUNCTIONING". Each of these subthemes has been further analyzed as for the topics it comprises and the referent situations / their modifications proper to each of the topics. Ignatenko D. Ye. The Expression of the Negative Evaluation in Phraseological Units with a Proper Name in English and Ukrainian

The article deals with the analysis of idioms with proper names (anthroponyms) which have a negative meaning in English and Ukrainian. The work is connected with the analysis of connotations of proper names which are components of phraseological units. The idea of the connotative component as the fundamental component of the phraseological meaning has been grounded. The basic semantic types of phraseological units are described in it. Structural and semantic analysis of onomastic phraseological units have revealed their nominative (substantive, adjective, verbative, adverbative), interjective and communicative types. The common and specific features of the semantics and structure of the idioms with an anthroponym component, which expresses a negative evaluation in the compared languages, are marked out.
