The author of the article analyses two poems by E. Dickinson in their Ukrainian translation. The analysis is carried out on the levels of the form, content, style and symbolism. The conclusion is made as for the strategies used (re-coding + re-creation) and the level of the dialogue with the original (interpersonal + intercultural). Form, content and stylistic features of Poem 49 are the same in the original and translated texts. Allusion appears and some author's ideas are omitted in Poem 303.

The topic is regarded as a structure built upon the hierarchy of micro topics. The micro topic represents a referential situation correlating with some of the structural constituents of the concept. All the micro topics are united by the common notional content within the macro topic which is nominated by the name of the concept. The macro topic correlates with the prototypical image of Ukraine which represents the nucleus of the concept.

The article focuses upon the peculiarities of verbal influence on the recipient’s consciousness through a syntactic structure of a sentence in correlation with an emotional and expressional factor. The principal macrostrategy of the manipulative interaction in the context of the war in Iraq is based on the archetypal opposition WE – THEY and can be realized on a syntactic level by means of polysyndeton, rhetorical questions, emphatic constructions, inversion, syntactic parallelism and anaphora.

Saltevskaya M. Yu. Syntactical Cognitive Metaphors of Crisis (on the material of the contemporary English newspaper discourse)

The article establishes correlates of syntactical cognitive metaphors of crisis, which constitute the image content of the concept CRISIS in the contemporary English newspaper discourse. Syntactical metaphors are those which change the onomasiological model of the sentence in the context of discourse as a result of interaction between the codified meaning of the structure and the unexpected lexical meaning of the units that fill it. It is proved that syntactical metaphors of crisis are represented by personification, verbalized by predicates of affective action with the agent, expressed by the name of the concept CRISIS. The basic correlate of the CRISIS conceptual referent is the concept EVIL-MAKER which has object (ENEMY/DICTATOR) and event specifications (A SKIPPER, STRANDING HIS SHIP/ AN EMPLOYER FIRING HIS WORKER).
